I was young, teachable, and willing to help. Everyone, except Old Bill, welcomed my attitude. I was a dramatic contrast to the typical, crusty, dried-out wino that stayed at the mission (These men were sober until the lure of the bottle was too great to resist). I was a fugitive with terrible guilt over a secret I feared would be revealed any day. Could I become a born-again Christian, based on a foundation of lies? Perhaps, a forgiving God’s help could guide me to some clues to the answers I needed.
